I’m sure many people feel they’re on the right path, have found the work we want to be doing and maybe in a good relationship too. But even if that side of things is all sorted are there things we take for granted, don’t value because it’s mundane maybe?
On the other hand, when we look at what we did that day, would we beat ourselves up over it and feel we’d wasted a day if we knew we didn’t have many left? I find questions like these very thought-provoking but equally they can make me feel guilty that I didn’t live today as if it were my last.
What I really love is my friend’s quote, ‘Make life your meditation.’ This to me is much simpler – it’s not a life full of regrets but it’s a life you’re at peace with. My early morning dog walk followed by writing for a couple of hours is all meditation to me. Being with my family, taking our youngest to the park, having interesting chats with Joinavision people all make me feel happy to be alive and content with where I am in my life.
I love being busy and feel this time has been waiting for all of us – to see if we can step up and create a brighter future for our children and our planet. This isn’t the time to sit reading the papers, watching TV, staring at screens – waiting for someone else to come along and do all the hard graft for us. This is the time to get actively involved in your local area, plant some veg, be more present with your family, open your heart to others around you who you may have dismissed before. Most importantly stop giving your energy to any media – that really is wasted time.
It’s going to take so much work to create a better world – one where we look back on our lives and feel we did our best. No regrets.
